In a world that often asks people to do more, be more, and push through discomfort, Julie Jewels Smoot offers something different: a space to pause.
As a Sound Alchemist, Author, Reiki Master, Veteran, and founder of Nothing Is Required Studio, Julie's work is rooted in a simple belief: healing does not need to be forced. Sometimes the most meaningful experiences come from having permission to simply be present.
Through restorative sound experiences, writing, and trauma-informed listening practices, Julie creates opportunities for people to reconnect with themselves without pressure, expectation, or performance. Her approach is built on choice, consent, and personal autonomy. There is no requirement to share, perform, process, or achieve a particular outcome.
Julie served in the United States Navy, an experience that shaped her understanding of resilience, discipline, and the importance of creating supportive spaces for individuals navigating life's challenges. Her personal journey has also included years of exploring healing modalities such as Reiki, sound healing, somatic practices, and restorative listening.
Today, Julie combines those experiences into offerings that honor each person's unique path. Her work includes Gong Listening Sessions featuring instruments such as the Chiron Gong, Jupiter Gong, Venus Gong, Sidereal Moon Gong, and Neptune Gong, along with Tibetan Singing Bowls, Hand pan, and other sound healing instruments. These sessions are not performances. They are invitations to listen, rest, and explore sound at your own pace.
As an author, Julie writes about trauma, resilience, healing, presence, and personal empowerment. Her books, spoken word projects, and sound healing albums reflect a commitment to authenticity and the belief that every person's story matters.
For therapists, caregivers, veterans, and individuals seeking moments of quiet reflection, Julie's work offers an alternative to environments that demand constant productivity. Instead, she creates spaces where curiosity is welcome, rest is respected, and presence is enough.
At the heart of everything Julie creates is a philosophy that guides her work:
Listening First. Nothing Is Required.
Whether someone attends a listening session, reads one of her books, explores her music, or simply pauses with a restorative practice, the invitation remains the same: to listen, to rest, and to return to themselves in their own way and in their own time.
Healing looks different for everyone. Julie's role is not to tell people what their experience should be. Instead, she offers a space where they can discover what is true for themselves.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is give ourselves permission to simply be present.
