I Kept Myself is a track from the album Still Alive, a collection exploring survival, resilience, and the quiet victories that often go unnoticed by the outside world.
Not every act of courage looks dramatic.
Sometimes courage is found in remaining connected to yourself when circumstances encourage disconnection.
Sometimes courage is found in remembering your own voice when others attempt to define it.
Sometimes courage is found in surviving without surrendering the parts of yourself that matter most.
This piece was created in honor of that kind of endurance.
The title I Kept Myself does not suggest perfection. It does not suggest that there were no losses, no wounds, or no moments of struggle. Rather, it acknowledges something deeper.
That beneath everything that happened, something essential remained.
Within Still Alive, this recording serves as a reflection on identity that survives pressure. The self that continues to exist beneath adaptation. The self that remains present beneath expectations, criticism, fear, or uncertainty.
The sounds unfold gently, without urgency or demand. There is no requirement to revisit the past or reinterpret what has happened. The piece offers space for recognition rather than analysis.
A recognition that survival is not only about making it through.
It is also about what remains intact.
The values that stayed.
The dreams that stayed.
The voice that stayed.
The self that stayed.
Nothing needs to be proven.
Nothing needs to be explained.
Nothing needs to be justified.
You do not have to earn the right to acknowledge what you protected.
You do not have to defend what you carried forward.
You are here.
You remain.
And through everything that changed,
you kept yourself.
