We Matter Too (Women Veterans) is a witness song.
It was written in response to having one’s service reduced, questioned, or dismissed — not by strangers, but by family and culture that struggle to hold women’s military service without distortion or disbelief.
Aligned with Nothing Is Required of You, this song does not argue, persuade, or perform strength. It offers sound as witness to a truth that does not need approval: women enlist, deploy, serve, and sacrifice with the same commitment and cost as any man.
This piece refuses the framing of women veterans as symbolic, political, or conditional. It names service plainly — without spectacle, without apology — and acknowledges the harm that occurs when women’s experiences are minimized, erased, or turned into talking points.
We Matter Too also holds what is often left unsaid: that service does not protect women from abuse, violation, or retaliation — and that these realities are part of the military story, not exceptions to it.
