Returning Through the Root
“Returning Through the Root” is a deeply grounding didgeridoo and shamanic ambient piece created for moments when the nervous system feels untethered, overwhelmed, hypervigilant, or disconnected from safety.
Built around low resonant tones, earthy frequencies, and steady rhythmic grounding, this track invites the listener back into the body slowly and without force. The sound moves like roots through the earth — steady, ancient, patient, and present.
For those living with trauma, chronic stress, PTSD, grief, or nervous system exhaustion, the body can begin to feel disconnected from the ground beneath it. Thoughts race. Muscles tighten. Survival mode takes over. “Returning Through the Root” was created as a sonic reminder that grounding does not have to be forced.
The didgeridoo’s deep vibration acts as an anchor beneath the noise, while the surrounding atmospheric layers create space for the breath to settle naturally. This is not music that demands emotional release or spiritual performance. It is sound that holds.
This piece honors the body’s need for:
- steadiness,
- slowness,
- regulation,
- and reconnection to the present moment.
Created by Sound Alchemist Julie Jewels Smoot, “Returning Through the Root” reflects her trauma-informed philosophy of sound:
Nothing is required.
Listening comes first.
Healing cannot be rushed.
This is music for unclenching, grounding, breathing, and remembering that the body does not have to remain in survival mode forever.
