Crown Without Permission
Crown Without Permission is a sound journey about reclaiming dignity, identity, and self-worth without waiting for approval from the people or systems that tried to deny it. At the center of the piece is the recognition that survival itself can become an act of resistance — especially for those who were taught to shrink, stay silent, or accept being diminished in order to belong.
The sound moves through tension, solitude, memory, and quiet defiance. Atmospheric layers and spacious textures create an environment where grief and power exist side by side without needing to compete. This is not triumph as performance. It is the slower, deeper realization that worth was never something another person had the authority to grant or remove.
Created by Sound Alchemist Julie Jewels Smoot, Crown Without Permission continues a trauma-informed approach to sound through nervous system awareness, consent-centered listening, and emotional honesty. The piece honors those who have lived beneath judgment, projection, dismissal, or institutional harm — and who are learning to stand inside their own truth anyway.
Some crowns are inherited.
Some are demanded.
And some are reclaimed in silence, without permission from anyone at all.Available listening through Julie Jules Smoot Sound Alchemist
